Sun StorageTek Enterprise Backup software (formerly Solstice Backup software), an integral component of Sun's data continuance solutions, delivers centralized data protection and management across heterogeneous environments. Features such as snapshot management, advanced indexing, high speed parallelism, automated media management, LAN-free and serverless backup, cluster awareness, comprehensive NDMP (Network Data Management Protocol) support, and dynamic tape drive sharing enable you to fully protect storage assets and minimize downtime.
For hands-free data protection, the software's Autochanger and Silo Modules support an extensive variety of Sun StorEdge tape and robotic devices. In addition, the software's DiskBackup Option allows data to be backed up to disk, staged from disk, and automatically moved to tape or cloned from disk to tape or disk - all with single-step recovery. The software's Application Modules deliver "hot" backup and granular recovery for Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2, IBM Informix, Sybase, Microsoft Exchange, IBM Lotus Notes/Domino, and SAP. You can combine Sun StorageTek Enterprise Backup software with Sun StorageTek Availability Suite software's point-in-time copy capability to achieve an even higher level of impact-free data protection.

- PowerSnap Module for Sun StorEdge Availability Suite provides a unified solution for heterogeneous customer environments that simplifies snapshot management across multiple combinations of applications servers, operating systems, and storage platforms
- Windows 2003 Open File Option provides a user with Admin privileges to have the ability to manage VSS backups from within the client GUI
- Module for SAP R/3 on Oracle for Linux Client for performing and automating "Hot Backup" and Restores of SAP R/3 on Oracle for Linux Clients
- Autochanger Software Module Unlimited Slots License allow a customers to take advantage of autochanger software requiring more than 700 slots
- Enhanced media database: Data consistency check can be invoked on demand, detects and reports record corruption, removes invalid data: Enables proactive corrections to minimise downtime and ensure database integrity in event of unexpected or incomplete shutdowns.
- Licensing clarity: Dedicated Storage Nodes (SAN Storage nodes renamed): Minimises confusion in marketing and licensing
- Disk-To-Disk Backup Enhancements: Read-from and write-to disk simultaneously; Perform staging/cloning operations and backups concurrently; Automatically sense and remove incomplete backups from disk; purge expired data; Clone at tape streaming rates; completion only lags time of last client backed up (not the entire environment); requires half the number of tape drives: Delivers fast backup and recovery as well as higher backup reliability; Ideal solution for fast cloning; Reduce administration overhead and fully leverage disk resources; Avoids "inline" tape cloning issues such as slowing backups, doubling risk of backup failure, creating two multiplexed tapes impacting data recovery.
- Improved Error Handling/Online tape vendors additional sense code libraries: Provides additional sense code/additional sense code qualifier translation to corresponding text error message for device vendors; Reduces the need to have physical device manuals during troubleshooting.
- Unique Identification of Devices: Collects serial number, model, and worldwide names from SCSI protocol-based devices; uniquely identifies devices in a tape library and its location in library: Reduces time and errors setting up and managing tape drives, etc. in large environments, especially FC-SANs.
- Support for Tape Alert: Support of standard SCSI Sense Code Library for tape devices; provides detailed info about tape status and failures: Enables Administrators to react quickly and precisely to errors on tape drives/libraries, reduces downtime and unnecessary drive cleanings
- Device Configuration UI Enhancements: Streamlines Jukebox Configuration, eliminates repetitive questions enabling faster implementation (especially in SAN environments with dynamic drive sharing): Increases operational efficiencies for administrators
- NDMP Support: Clone NDMP saveset from tape allows for automated clone tape creation of off-site storage for data recovery strategy
- NDMP Support: Restore NDMP saveset sub-directories allows for aster recovery of thousands/millions of files and reduces EBS server resource consumption
- Export of mminfo/nsrinfo reports can be generated in XML or .csv (comma separated value) formats: allows for easier access to internal StorEdge EBS data for reporting
- Hardware support (V880, STK 9940 Tape Drive, L5500 Tape Library, 2 GB PCI Single FC-AL Host Adapter) offers increased support of customer's heterogeneous storage infrastructure

- LICENSING :All Sun StorageTek Enterprise Backup Software (EBS) products are controlled by software licenses (enablers) tied to the host identification of the server where the license is to be registered. Some (but not all) EBS 7.x licenses are backwards-compatible and, therefore, can be used with older media. To find out specifically which licenses are backward compatible, please refer to the Release Notes for this product.
- RELEVANT STANDARDS SUPPORTED :This list represents the most pertinent standards that Sun StorageTek EBS supports. For a complete list, contact www.legato.com:
